PROKE: perfect measurements, remotely, with the Amazon Web Services technology

Revolutionising  the world of bespoke garment making

Logo image
It all began during lockdown in 2020, with the birth of PROKE, standing for Process Bespoke, based on the benefits of simplifying the acquisition of measurements of women’s and men’s bodies, including remotely. The next step was the creation of a prototype elastic suit with tags that are scanned with a smartphone camera to populate a database with the measurements of the person wearing it, creating a perfectly identical avatar. The suit can be sent to a person’s home or kept in a shop or on company premises, reducing wastage during production and optimising the in-store measurement process.

Technology at the service of inclusive fashions

A bridge towards a more inclusive world, capable of reaching beyond conventional ideas of beauty. Two previously separate worlds: information technology and garment pattern making. Apparently contrasting, they now unite to revolutionise the bespoke clothing world. This technology brings many benefits:

• In terms of environmental sustainability, this precise, reliable app reduces the wastage of fabric generally caused by errors in manual measurements. What’s more, it eliminates unnecessary travel and drastically cuts the number of garment returns.

• It’s a great resource for companies and brands because it can improve garment design and production processes by basing collections on real body shapes rather than on outdated size charts.

• It can help store sales staff, as no tailoring skills are required to use the app to take accurate measurements. This can also improve the customer experience.

The PROKE app: the digital tailor

The user just puts on the special suit and follows the instructions on their smartphone. Visual feedback superimposed on the live pictures guides the user through the measuring process, while a 3D map of the body displays the completed measurements. The user only has to move the smartphone to scan the various measuring points. The algorithm will establish whether a sufficiently accurate measurement has been obtained and clearly mark all completed points. Data are acquired in real time, so the app can show the instantaneous outcome on completion of the measurement, displaying the results to the user. If the process is interrupted, the app even saves partial measurements, so the user can restart and complete the job later. After the acquisition phase, the app automatically saves the measurements and photos in the cloud, ready to be shared with the producer, retailer or brand.

Towards the future, together

Var Group partnered PROKE in the realisation of this project, fully understanding the need to be served and whole-heartedly embracing the original idea. PROKE could count on the application development skills in mobile and cloud contexts provided by Var Group, starting from the genuine business need and collaborating on the development of the app concept to be created. The development team’s DevOps methodology and agile approach guaranteed an optimised product, aligned with the infrastructure operations, making full use of the power of the devices’ hardware and the scalability that only the cloud can provide.

“The infrastructure Var Group created together with Amazon Web Services has enabled us to obtain very precise, catalogued, neatly structured data already perfectly aligned with the needs of a business, which can then process, develop and exploit them. It has become clear to us that this is where the project’s greatest value lies.”
