Milan, 15 June 2023 - The Grimaldi Group - a leading international maritime freight and passenger transport company with high-quality services - has chosen Var Group and Oracle to implement a hybrid IT management model, embarking on a new digital journey with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Over the past 15 years, the company’s maritime passenger transport business has grown significantly thanks to the opening of new routes. To support this growth in a strategic Made in Italy sector, the Grimaldi Group has identified the need to make its IT systems more efficient, scalable and above all secure, by choosing the cloud technology paradigm. The transition from a completely in-house IT management model to a hybrid model represented a major challenge, involving significant effort and radical change. Not only modern technology, but operational efficiency too: the use of cloud services is in fact enabling Grimaldi to respond effectively to the seasonality typical of this business. The new approach supports the company by speeding up its processes and optimising its IT investments.

The IT platform supporting the Grimaldi Tourism Area was initially based entirely on Oracle database technology, but the continuity provided by the vendor's OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) technologies - which include data management in the cloud together with other cloud-based services - made OCI an attractive and cost-effective choice. Its very competitive entry and exit costs are one of Oracle's strengths. In tackling such a complex project, its first experience of cloud-based systems, the Grimaldi Group needed a solid partner with strong Oracle Cloud expertise, able to support the company both during the migration and in the subsequent system management phase.
